TIPS & TRICKS
Which Multi-Color Sign Method Is Right for Your Project?
When a sign includes multiple colors, there are a few different ways to produce it. The best method depends the
complexity of the design, which materials are being used, and what your clients budget allows. Below is an overview
of three common approaches: painting separate pieces, painting multiple colors on a single piece, or print. Each
comes with its own set of advantages and considerations.
One Color per Piece: Simple and
Efficient
Multiple Colors on a Single Surface:
Seamless but Labor-Intensive
One of the most straightforward ways to produce a
multi-color sign is by creating separate pieces, with each
piece painted in a single solid color. These elements
are then assembled during installation to complete
the design.
For a cleaner, more integrated look, painting multiple
colors on a single piece is another option. This process
uses masking to isolate areas, allowing each color to
be applied precisely.
Advantages and Considerations
Advantages and Considerations
Advantages: This method is often more affordable and
offers a quicker turnaround compared to more detailed
processes. It’s a great fit for bold logos that use solid colors
without gradients or fine detail. Flat cut materials like
acrylic, aluminum, and stainless-steel work especially well
with this technique.
Advantages: Best suited for simpler color schemes, it
results in a smooth, seamless finish that looks polished and
professional. This method is available for various materials.
It works best for logos with one or two colors placed on
the same surface.
Considerations: The main tradeoff is that seams between
pieces may be visible once installed. If your design relies
on alignment or smooth transitions between colors, this
might not be the best fit.

Considerations: Designs that require gradients, fine lines,
or more than two colors in one area are typically better
suited for a different approach. This process also requires
a bit more production time.
