GEMINI PLAQUES : FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: What is the standard Gemini plaque clear coat?
A: For brushed and painted finishes our standard clear coat sheen is satin. Other sheens are available upon request. Gloss is
standard for our plaques with a polished finish. Matte is standard for PhotoRelief cast plaques. Our standard clear coat
is applied to the face and returns of the plaques.
For harsh environments and complete coating coverage on the front and back of the plaque: studs or thru holes are
required. Please let Gemini know at the time of the order if you need a front/back clear coat for harsh environments
(industrial areas, salt/ocean air exposure).
Refer to Thin Gauge Metal Sign section regarding laquer or without laquer coating.
Q: Does hardware come with the plaque?
A: The standard mounting options such as blind mount, machine screws, toggle wings (hollow wall), masonry anchors, and
wood screws are all included in the cost of the plaque. Thru hole requests are for holes only, no screws are sent with the
plaque.
Other mounting items, such as garden stakes, posts, post cap would have additional costs added to the plaque and we
provide all the necessary hardware to accompany that mounting selection purchased.
Gemini does not supply custom hardware, tamper-proof hardware or adhesives (epoxy) for installation.
Q: What is the difference between chemical oxidized and alternative oxidized for the plaque finish?
A: Chemical oxidizing is the process of adding a chemical to the bronze, or brass, plaque to pre-age the finish. There are
limits to the size for our cast (up to 29” x 29”) and our precision or etched plaques (up to 18” x 24”). Because this finish
is partially accomplished by hand there will be variants in the coloring, finish and appearance from plaque to plaque and
order to order.
Alternative oxidizing has the capability to apply to any size plaque and there is no additional charge added to the plaque.
The finish is more consistent from plaque to plaque and order to order than a chemical oxidized finish.
Q: What is the warranty for Ground placement or non-wall installations?
A: Cast, precision, or etched plaques that are installed in/on the ground, or run parallel to the ground, are not covered under
warranty. Water, dirt or other debris will pool in the recessed areas and the surface of the plaque and cause coatings
and finishes to fail prematurely. Placement in the ground that may be walked on, and forms of equipment (motorized or
non-motorized) will also cause damage to the plaque.
Installations on a rock or pedestal: It is recommended that you angle the plaque to allow water/debris to drain off the
plaque. Raised borders are not recommended for these types of installations as they will also trap any water or debris on
the plaque, even with an angled installation.
